BioThe elder Hitachiin brother, Hikaru comes from the same well-off background and is used to having his way. Some people call him “pushy” or “spoiled,” but of course he doesn’t see himself that way.
During their last year of middle school, Hikaru and his brother Kaoru were approached by an older member of the Ouran Host Club and asked to join. Until that point, Hikaru had been content to just exist in his own “world” with Kaoru. However, curiosity and boredom got the better of him and he decided to accept the offer. Little did he know that they would be inducted before they could even agree.
Hikaru tends to be the more dominant brother, so it was natural for him to play the “seme” during host club activities. The fangirls ate it up and so it’s the role he’s continued to play, although it comes more naturally than perhaps it should. Hikaru’s “little devil” host club character is no act, since they were children the Hitachiin brothers have enjoyed making others look stupid and/or bend to their wants depending on the situation. Together, they have devised several schemes to trick people in to giving them their way.
Even though they are now popular, Hikaru would rather spend time alone with his twin than hang around the annoying and stupid people that exist outside their secret world. To him, they are two halves of the same person, and no amount of popularity will ever separate them.
Hikaru is often said by others to be more brash, more outgoing, and more bossy than his twin. At least, when people can tell them apart. He generally dominates their “brotherly love” scenarios, planning out different scenes to make the girls squeal. As soon as he leaves the house he is acting, keeping up the appearance of a mischievous seme. Occasionally unexpected problems arise, but they can usually be over come with a little improvisation.
Behind his outer toughness, Hikaru is really the more codependent of the two. If it were up to him, he would spend every second with Kaoru, and he is prone to pouty fits of jealousy whenever Kaoru does something on his own. Without his brother, he is no longer a complete person. His personality, his actions, his lifestyle all depend on Kaoru.
Although Hikaru knows he and Kaoru are different, his heart has trouble accepting it.
Because he’s privileged, Hikaru has had many opportunities to take a variety of lessons. Martial arts, skating, cello and piano, English and French (although his language skills are less than they should be, Kaoru held more of an interest in things like that and Hikaru sort of took them to go along.)
If it were up to him, he would never be without Kaoru. However, because they sometimes have to be separate, Hikaru has tried to find ways to cope. Mostly he gets mopey and depressed. If the are apart for any significant length of time he gets angry and starts picking fights with others.
